Let an AI assistant read one Project's links, reports, and conversions — and change nothing.
An AI assistant that supports the Model Context Protocol (MCP) can read your TapBaton data and answer questions like “Which Smart Link converted best last week?” or “Why did this click go to the Android flow?”. It works with an API key you create for one Project. The assistant can only read; it cannot edit a Smart Link, publish, or change a setting.
What the assistant can read
Section titled “What the assistant can read”- Your Smart Links and how each one routes traffic: flows, conditions, split shares, and where each variant sends people.
- Reports: clicks, conversions, revenue, and rates for a period, grouped the same way as in Analytics.
- Recent conversions, filtered by type, Smart Link, or period.
- Why one click went where it went, step by step.
- How many visitors left the in-app browser, by app and operating system.
- Open alerts and offers.
The numbers match what you see in the console. Destinations are shown without their private values: a link such as https://network.example/click?aff_id=123 appears as https://network.example/click?aff_id=[REDACTED].
Create a key for your assistant
Section titled “Create a key for your assistant”- Open Settings → API keys and choose New API key. Only an Owner or Admin can do this.
- Name the key after the assistant, choose the Project it may read, and tick Let AI assistants use this key.
- Copy the key from the confirmation window. It is shown only once.
You can switch AI assistants on or off for an existing key in the same list. Revoking the key stops the assistant on its next request.
A key sees exactly what the person who created it can see in that Project. If that person loses access to the Project, the key stops working too.
Add TapBaton to your assistant
Section titled “Add TapBaton to your assistant”The Connect an AI assistant section on the same page shows your MCP endpoint address and ready-made setups with copy buttons. In each setup, replace YOUR_TAPBATON_API_KEY with your key.
- Claude Code: run the
claude mcp addcommand from the Claude tab once in a terminal. - Cursor: add the JSON from the Cursor tab to
.cursor/mcp.jsonin your project, and keep the key in an environment variable. - OpenAI API: add the MCP tool from the ChatGPT tab to your request, with the key in its
authorizationfield.
The Claude and ChatGPT apps connect to outside tools only through a sign-in flow, which TapBaton does not offer yet. Use one of the options above instead.
Keep the key safe
Section titled “Keep the key safe”Treat the key like a password. Store it in your assistant’s settings or an environment variable, never in a shared document or chat. Each key expires; issue a new one before it does and revoke the old one.
If an assistant reports that the key is not allowed to use MCP, an Owner or Admin needs to switch AI assistants on for that key. If it reports that there are too many requests, wait a minute: each key can make about two requests a second.
