Use Analytics when you want to compare results across a Project. Use a Smart Link’s Insights view when you want to understand one link.
Start with a question
Section titled “Start with a question”A report is easier to read when you ask one question at a time:
- Which Smart Link brought the most recorded clicks?
- Which source or country brought the most conversions?
- Did a change help one audience while another stayed the same?
Choose the date range, then choose the number you want to compare. Clicks counts recorded visits; Conversions counts received outcomes. If you track values, you can include those too.
Break a number down
Section titled “Break a number down”Group the report by a detail such as Smart Link, source, country, or device. Add another grouping when the first one hides a difference that matters. Use filters to focus on a campaign or audience. You can save a useful report to return to it later.
A group can contain visits with unknown details. “Unknown” means TapBaton did not have enough information to assign that detail; it should not be read as a new source or device.
Add a number your team uses
Section titled “Add a number your team uses”If a standard number does not answer your question, open Conversions → Custom metrics. A custom metric combines numbers already in TapBaton, such as sales divided by leads to show a rate. Give it a clear name and choose whether the result should appear as a number, percent, or money amount. You can then add it as a column in Analytics.
See where a link was shared
Section titled “See where a link was shared”A Smart Link’s Shares view counts share previews: the card a chat app draws when someone pastes your link. The app opens the link once to build it, so each preview means the link was shared at least once. It is not a count of shares: apps keep the card, so a link pasted many times may be fetched once.
Previews come from bot traffic. They are never counted as clicks and never billed. To see one, paste the public URL into a chat such as Telegram or WhatsApp. The view shows the total, the days it happened, and the apps behind it.
Why a recent number may change
Section titled “Why a recent number may change”New records can appear in a report after they appear in a log. Compare the same dates, time zone, filters, and conversion types when you compare two reports. Avoid treating a fresh report as a final total until the relevant records have arrived.
For one specific event, use Logs to follow it through. A report helps compare groups; a log helps investigate one record.
